Coldest Night of the Year LMO

Come join CISV Waterloo on Feb 24th 2018 as we volunteer and/or participate in Coldest Night of the Year 2018 for the 2nd year.

The Coldest Night of the Year (Canada's unofficial Walk for Homelessness) is a super-fun, family-friendly walking fundraiser that raises money for the hungry, homeless and hurting in 100+ communities across Canada. The K/W event starts at Cameron Heights Secondary School at 4pm.

The WALK is held on Saturday, February 24th, 2018, and provides each participant the opportunity to:
·          walk 2km, 5km or 10km
·          fundraise much needed money for a local, charity (Ray of Hope)
·          feel a hint of the challenge faced by those experiencing homelessness - particularly during the winter.

Since 2011, the Coldest Night of the Year has raised over $12 million dollars working with our select charity partners. Each Coldest Night of the Year location is operated by a local, community-based registered Canadian charity working with the Coldest Night of the Year.

Hw can I join?
OPTION 1- Volunteer:  Register to Volunteer for ages 13+.  Please select Kitchener/Waterloo as location.  In comments request to be “with CISV Waterloo Volunteers”.  There are indoor jobs (Food service, Welcome, Registration desk, Rest Stop Hosts) and outdoor jobs (Welcome team, Route sign set up/take down, Route Marshalls, Parking).  There is NO cost to volunteer.
OPTION 2- Participate: for ages 0-99. The Coldest Night of the Year is a fundraiser. The registration fee is $25 and payable during online registration or on event day.  However you can waive the fee and fundraise: During registration, walkers can waive the $25 registration fee and commit to fundraise a minimum of $150 (for adults 18+) or $75 (for youth 13-17). They encourage all walkers to fundraise.

Can my child under age 13 participate?
All kids aged 12 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who is walking with them and stays with them at all times. The routes are 'family friendly', but not intended for children walking alone. A parent or responsible adult guardian must accompany youth 12 and under on WALK Day to help them register/hand in their waiver form (signed by legal guardian).

Do my children need to pay the registration fee?
No, if volunteering and 13+.
No, if under 13 and participating. For children under the age of 13, the registration fee of $25 is waived
Yes, if participating and over 13. For children aged 13-17, the $25 registration fee applies if they raise less than $75.
NOTE: All youth under 18 must have a waiver signed by their legal guardian. Waivers can be downloaded (under the “Tools” section of their website) to bring on Event Day.  Those aged 13+ can sign up as volunteer but must bring waiver.
